About Me

Troy Burtch
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I started this blog in 2007 for my own interests, keeping a running log of different pubs I visited and it turned into something much more. Since that time I left my cushy job with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to take a position with TAPS The Beer Magazine as the Director of Sales and Marketing where I also wrote many articles and interviewed some pretty cool beer personalities. Andrew Oland of Moosehead was very interesting - Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head fame, was a riot after a very lengthy beer dinner at beerbistro - Daisy Claeys of t' Bruges Beertje was the most hospitable - BrewDog's James Watt was shy and humble away from the crowd - and Rick Mercer was just as funny in person as he is on tv.

In February 2012 I stepped away from TAPS and joined the terrific team at the Great Lakes Brewery in Etobicoke. I have the privilege to talk about a great brewery with great brands everyday. Selling craft beer, educating people about craft beer, marketing craft beer, etc - it's a great way to spend your days.

I am also the co-founder of Toronto Beer Week (TBW), a series of events spread out over nine days that are dedicated to the celebration and advancement of the craft beer movement in Toronto. 2012 will mark the 3rd annual TBW.

I've provided written material for Canadian Living, BOOM Magazines, TAPS and I've hosted video podcasts for TAPS as well, one of which won a Telly Award. I have also assisted some Canadian breweries with sound marketing strategies, worked with various restaurants from Halifax, NS to Vancouver, BC on beer dinners and menu development, helped to create, host and execute unique beer events for a number of private functions, and have organized a number of successful pub crawls throughout Ontario and Nova Scotia.
